History
TRAIL (Transportation Resource to Aid Independent Living, Inc.) was the brainchild of a small number of parents of adults with developmental disabilities. Their goal was to ensure their children would have safe, affordable transportation to Adaptive Recreation & Learning Exchange (AR&LE) social and recreational programs.
Incorporated in 1991, TRAIL began providing transportation to 18 AR&LE programs in 1993. Prior to COVID-19, TRAIL annually provides transportation to over 200 events.
TRAIL is run by an all volunteer Board of Directors made up of family members, business professionals, advocates and individuals who work with people w ho have developmental disabilities.
Mission
TRAIL’s mission is to provide transportation for adults with developmental disabilities living in Bloomington, Eden Prairie, Edina and Richfield, allowing them to attend customized recreation and leisure programs offered by the Adaptive Recreation and Learning Exchange (AR&LE). Through donations and fundraising, TRAIL subsidizes the cost of transportation; as a result, riders pay a nominal fee for their rides.
